This book contains the transcript of the Independence Session\u2014the extraordinary fifth session of the Supreme Soviet of the Byelorussian SSR of the 12th convocation, held on 24\u201325 August 1991.
Very little has been published on this subject, which is one of the most important subjects in our recent history. Most of the original transcripts were destroyed by the anti-Belarusian regime. I therefore consider it an important personal duty to publish these transcripts.
The author of these lines has repeatedly referred to the decisions of the Fifth Extraordinary Session in his articles and publications, for example, in the book Deputies of Independence, Warsaw\u2013New York\u2013Vilnius, 2010 (co-authored with S. Naumchyk).
This account and narrative of the Independence Session is distinctive in that it was written by someone who was a direct participant in the Session and in all those events to which the BNF deputies gave their characteristic spirit of struggle and ultimately of victory. <\/p>\n
