Grator “The Power of Words” – a simulation game

About the game

Grator “The Power of Words” is a game-simulator of spontaneous speech and oratorical skills, developed by Irina Penina. Participants travel through the “planet of words”, complete situational tasks and strive to obtain the title of “Great Orator”.

The game offers the opportunity to create short, coherent stories, answer unexpected questions, act out situations, and try on different roles. It provides an opportunity to practice self-presentation, clear speech, argumentation, and interaction with the audience without extensive prior preparation.

How is the game going?

Participants move tokens around a fabric field, and cards set topics, roles, questions, and conditions for speaking. The decks suggest interests, needs, goals, values, emotions, metaphors, phrases, places, and other circumstances to include in your story or presentation.

Unexpected combinations of cards help practice flexibility of speech, working with questions and objections, verbal and nonverbal communication, selection of arguments and one’s own style of speech. The game can be used both for an informal game and in a group educational or training format.

Why does play teach and develop?

Grator develops eloquence, spontaneous speech, individual style, self-presentation, and verbal and non-verbal communication. The game helps overcome the fear of public speaking, teaches persuasion, working with questions, objections, and conflicts, managing emotions, and influencing listeners. It also develops emotional intelligence and helps establish communication in a team and between generations.

• “Networking Questions” and “Networking Tasks” decks – 27 cards each;
• 4 chips and a dice.

There are a total of 300 cards in the set: 14 thematic decks and 2 separate decks of questions and tasks.
