“Virtuoso of the Word” – a card simulator

About the game

“Virtuoso of Speech” is a compact card simulator for oratory skills. One hundred cards with topics, situations, audiences, delivery styles, and expected effects create a variety of conditions for improvised speech.

The participant must quickly formulate his or her opinion, logically construct a speech, and adapt it to the given situation and audience. The game provides an opportunity to practice self-presentation, argumentation, clear speech, and dealing with unexpected questions without extensive preparation.

How is the game going?

The game has three levels of difficulty. At the first level, the participant receives cards for the topic, situation, and audience. For example, he may need to talk about the benefits of reading books during a radio appearance in front of schoolchildren.

The participant is given 30 seconds to prepare, after which he/she speaks for two minutes. The other players play the role of the assigned audience: they can ask questions and express objections. The speaker must respond without straying from the topic and maintaining the chosen style and tone.

At the second level, the manner of performance is added to the conditions, and at the third level, the expected effect to be achieved in the audience. The number of game circles gradually decreases: three at the first level, two at the second, and one at the third.

After each performance, participants rate it on a five-point scale. Content, structure, and language are taken into account, and at subsequent levels, delivery and effect are also taken into account. The participant with the highest total score wins.
